In its latest report, CIOL finds that this is a programme “which is thriving with plenty of positivity from the student and staff body.”

The report highlights student successes both within and beyond the programme, including awards and career development news.

Video feedback and the use of Microsoft Teams are singled out as programme developments that have led to greater engagement and satisfaction. CIOL is pleased that recent changes have “provided flexibility and choice for lecturers and students to work in modes which best suit the needs of individuals or groups.”

The report recognises that the role of university programmes in translation is contested, with some arguing for an emphasis on skills training and employability while others prefer a focus on in-depth research. In this context, CIOL finds that “the MA in Translation seems well-placed to lead that discussion and perhaps demonstrate how a programme can address both issues effectively.”

“We are very pleased with this report, which reognises the hard work that staff have done to make sure the programme is ahead of the curve and enables students to enjoy an education that will serve both their intellectual and career-related needs,” says Christophe Fricker, the programme’s director. “Feedback from alumni/ae has consistently emphasised that the programme has ‘worked’ for them.”

The programme currently advertises two scholarships which provide a significant reduction in fees for students starting in 2024/25.
